Petronas Twin Towers
Kuala Lumpur, the Capital of Malaysia is one of the most industrialized, commercialized and modern cities in the World. Each year it rakes in thousands of tourists for its amazing sights to see and places to relax. It is also one of the most busiest places for commerce, one of Kuala Lumpur's finest achievements are their tallest twin tower buildings, the Petronas. The Petronas used to be the tallest buldings in the World until recently and they’re still hold the 1st spot for being the tallest twin buildings in the World.
The Petronas is known for its impressive feat of architecture and infrastructure. Used as an office space, it took 7 years to construct and a whopping 1.6 Billion USD. It stands tall extending to almost 1500 feet. A lot of planning went into the development of the building due to its immense structure. It was built in the World's deepest foundations to ensure stability in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur's race track. The building has been constructed incorporating resemblance to Islam with relevant art to reflect the country's primary religion.
Costs were carefully taken into consideration and the buildings' entire foundation has almost entirely been built with powerful concrete as steel is more scarce and expensive. Concrete was also chosen due to its other benefits in the face of physics like decreased swaying which maintains better stability. The twin buildings are connected by a sky bridge which also has some impressive technology behind it. It is situated in between the 41st and 42nd floors and is not permanently placed; it slides in and out when needed to prevent it dismantling during a powerful wind. After 7 years, it was completed in 1998 led by Argentinean architect Cesar Pelli. Tennants occupying the building consist of very notable companies like Microsoft, Boeing and Al Jazeera among hundreds of others.
With such a high rise structure, lifts play an important role for accessibility and moving around the buildings, the lifts in use are from industry leaders Otis, there are 78 lifts in total and they are equipped with emergency systems in case evacuation is required. The building is also noted was for several people attempting to 'scale' it Spiderman style only to be arrested when nearing the summit.
An immense amount of planning, time and money has gone into erecting this structure, the result being one of the most successful office spaces with state of the art infrastructure and facilities, and a delight to look at during the day or lit up at night.
